Remo Stars Facilities Impress Oshoala
By Gbenga Gboyega
Formerly named FC Dender, Remo Stars Football Club has recorded progression on and off the pitch since its establishment in 2004 by Hon. Kunle Soname, and Super Falcons' star Asisat Oshoala is the latest to bask in the euphoria, bsnsports.com.ng reports.
On Friday, 18th of August 2023, twelve days after the Super Falcons reached their bus stop at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup against England, Asisat paid a courtesy visit to the Ikenne-based club in Ogun State and was received by President, Hon. Kunle Soname alongside other members of staff.
In recent times, the players of the Nigeria Women's National team have enjoyed a series of hosting and gestures from dignitaries across the country, from the First Lady's chambers to various other State Governors.
This time, it was the players returning the gesture, first with Rashidat Ajibade visiting Remo Stars' Academy - Beyond Limits on Monday, followed by Asisat Oshoala dropping by the parent club.
"It is a privilege to be here," Asisat said while addressing Hon. Kunle Soname in the club President's office.
"I used to think there were only standard pitches for training, I never imagined it would be a full-blown facility.
"I am not surprised by the achievement at Remo because I remember working with you in 2014 even when the venture was not paying, yet your passion for and investment in the sport remained paramount," she said while feeling impressed.
"I will not be surprised if there will be more progress recorded subsequently because you are doing something huge in your hometown."
Hon. Kunle Soname hails from Remo town in Ogun State and is fulfilling his mission of "tackling crime and violence" according to a piece written on his behalf with the National Daily Newspaper back in November 2019.
In response to Asisat's remarks, the Remo Stars President and co-founder of the popular sports betting company Bet9ja appreciated the striker's visit and emphasized the advent of sports in the state with improved likeness and familiarity of the game.
"Firstly, I thank you (Asisat) for coming around. Now we have a lot of good footballers, and people following sports, especially football, and can relate with the national team players by name and identity.
"You can now go to the market and ask the sellers who and who is playing, and they will respond," he said.
Remo Stars are billed to face Medeama SC of Ghana in the CAF Champions League Preliminary round tomorrow on Sunday afternoon by 4 pm at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in Ghana.
