Renewed Hope For Women's Football In Nigeria As Fosla Wins Award At CAF Competition

The youngest team at the just-concluded. WAFU B CAF African Secondary School Football Championship in Togo, Fosla Women's Football team won the Fair Play award, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Though the Nigeria representative at the CAF Girl's School Football Tournament could not win the trophy but former President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Sani Lulu Abdullahi was proud of their performance particularly winning the Best behaved team of the tournament following the players and officials composure on and off their pitch.

Playing under the scotching sun, the congestion of the fixture had negative effect on the players where each team were scheduled to play four matches in a day. 

Speaking with www.bsnsports.com.ng, Sani Lulu said, "I am very proud of the girls performance and composure, though we didn't win the trophy but we went there to make Nigerians proud for picking the Fair Play award at the maiden edition.

"This will have positive impact on the future of Nigeria women's football because, it will get to a time where the federation can easily assemble young female players below 15 Years from Secondary Schools across Nigeria that participate in the subsequent editions.

An innovative brainchild of CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, the CAF African Schools Football Championship not only affords school-going learners an opportunity to partake in international football, but brings about unique initiative geared at nurturing future African stars.

As part of its innovative approach to youth football development and affording access, CAF distributed 800 PUMA match balls to all 44 participating Member Associations across the CAF Zones.
