Nottingham Forest are expected to make a key decision regarding the future of Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi this summer, with the forward entering the final year of his contract, according to reports from Football Insider, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Awoniyi has endured another season disrupted by injuries, although the Super Eagles forward has recently returned to the starting line-up and shown signs of rediscovering his best form.

The 28-year-old delivered a standout performance earlier this month against Chelsea FC, scoring twice in a memorable 3-1 victory for manager Vitor Pereira’s side.

Having already secured their Premier League status for next season, Nottingham Forest are now turning attention toward summer recruitment and squad planning, with Awoniyi’s future emerging as one of the club’s key considerations.

The Nigerian striker is believed to have potential interest from other clubs, particularly after his recent performances highlighted the qualities that made him one of Forest’s most exciting signings following his move from Union Berlin in 2022.

Awoniyi enjoyed an impressive debut Premier League campaign at the City Ground, scoring 10 goals in 27 appearances. However, recurring injury setbacks have hampered his progress since then.

A groin injury ruled him out for two months during his first season, while further fitness concerns limited his impact in the following campaign, restricting him to just 20 league appearances.

Although the last two seasons have been less affected by major injuries, competition for places has intensified. The form of striker Chris Wood, and more recently Igor Jesus, has reduced Awoniyi’s opportunities for regular playing time.

Despite those challenges, Pereira has continued to encourage improved performances from the Nigerian international, who has played an important role in helping Forest secure Premier League survival in recent months.

With his contract situation unresolved and the summer transfer window approaching, Nottingham Forest must now decide whether to extend Awoniyi’s stay at the club or consider offers for the forward ahead of the new season.
