Revealed: Why Peseiro Has Not Been Paid

BSN Sports had reported that Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro is being owed 10 months salary (https://bsnsports.com.ng/post/Peseiro-Mums-On-10-month-Unpaid-Salary ), since he assumed duty in Nigeria.

This follows a tip-off from an insider from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who confirmed to BSN Sports that the Portuguese tactician has not received any salary since he was appointed.

The NFF had named Peseiro as Super Eagles’ substantive head coach in December 2021 after sacking of Gernot Rohr.

Peseiro was expected to lead the Super Eagles to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon but the NFF instead gave Austin Eguavoen the mantle to lead the team in the interim.

Jose Peseiro was however appointed in May 2022, after Eguavoen's failure at the 2021 AFCON. He also failed to pick the 2022 FIFA World Cup ticket where Ghana edged out Nigeria on goal difference.

Recall that the Ministry had promised that the Federal Government will take up the payment of experienced foreign coaches after Gernot Rohr was shown the exit door.

A source in the ministry reliably told BSN SPORTS that the Ministry had secured approval from the Federal Government to pay the coach and requested the account details of the coach during a meeting since last year and till now the federation failed to make available the account details.

While government insisted in paying the coach directly, the NFF according to the source wanted to receive the money and be the one to pay.

"The Ministry had secured approval for payment of Jose Peseiro from the presidency since last year but the NFF after the meeting with us (Ministry) demanding the coach's account details refused to furnish us with the information requested. They wanted the money be paid to them then pay the coach. But Federal Government insisted on paying directly into the coach account 

"If the account details are made available, the approval letter will be attached to it and forwarded to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) who will make the payment with immediate effect."

"Till now, we are still waiting for his account details." The source concluded.
