Rivers Angels head coach Tosan Blankson has said his side was forced to play Ibom Angels' style of football in their season opener, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Rivers Angels secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Ibom Angels in the South-South Derby on Wednesday in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League.

Ifeoma Ikenokwalu's 78th-minute goal proved to be the decisive factor in a well-contested match.

The game was marked by own goals from both sides, with Helen Daniel scoring in the 3rd minute to give Rivers Angels the lead, and Joy Micheal equalizing for Ibom Angels in the 18th minute.

In his post-match reaction, Blankson said Ibom Angels tactics didn't work in their favour noting that Ibom Angels were more physical than his team.

According to him, his players were anxious due to it being their first competitive match together.

Despite this, Blankson praised his team's effort, saying, "The win is as good as playing Super Six already. The girls have done well."

Rivers Angels' next match is an away game against Naija Ratels in Abuja.
