By Gbenga Gboyega

The team that knocked out Nigeria Premier League's Rivers United from the CAF Confederation Cup in the quarterfinals, we're defeated by their opponents - USM Alger in the finals on Saturday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Recall that Young Africans, who represent Tanzanian football defeated Rivers United with two goals to nothing over two legs in the final eight round, before overcoming South Africa's Marumo Gallants in the semis to reach the final of the Confederation Cup, but fell at the hands of eventual winners, USM Alger from Algeria.

An early goal by DR Congo's Djuma Shabani from the penalty spot in the 7th minute was enough for Alger to clinch their first-ever CAF title in 85 years of existence. Although, the Algerian team was a runner-up at the 2015 CAF Champions League, where they lost to Congolese side, TP Mazembe.

The triumph ensures automatic qualification for Alger for the 2023-24 CAF Confederation Cup season, and also a date at the CAF Super Cup, with the winner of the 2023 CAF Champions League final between Al Ahly of Egypt and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.

Despite the loss on the continental stage, Young Africans have already booked their place in next season's CAF Champions League campaign, after lifting the 2023 Tanzanian Premier League with two games to spare.
