Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have announced the death of one of their newborn twins, as the male child passed away at childbirth.

In a devastating statement on social media on Monday evening, the couple stated that the survival of the baby girl is what gives them strength at the moment.

The couple also took time to appreciate the doctors and nurses who gave them all the support during the entire process.

Ronaldo and Georgina urged family, friends and well-wishers to allow them utmost privacy at this time which they have branded as "difficult".

"It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the death of our baby, he said.

"It's the biggest pain any parent can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all the care and support provided.

"We are devastated and ask for privacy at this very difficult time. "Our boy, you are our angel. We will love you forever."

The 37-year-old forward is now a proud father of five children.

His eldest son is 11-year-old Cristiano Jr., followed by 4-year-old twins Eva Maria and Mateo.

He also has a 3-year-old daughter named Alana Martina.

The twins would have Cristiano’s fifth and sixth children; however, he confirmed they had lost their baby son.
