SWAN Celebrates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @74

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Sunday felicitated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR on his 74th birthday.

SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, through the Association's Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, in a statement on Sunday, hailed President Tinubu for his towering leadership impacts which have endeared him to global reckoning.

The number one sports writer in Nigeria said President Tinubu’s greater exploits are already encouraging Nigerian youths to discover and deplore their God given sporting talents.

He further described President Tinubu as one who is focused and committed to uplifting Nigeria and Nigerians through sports, adding that his deliberate decision to appoint and retain top professionals - Mallam Shehu Dikko and Hon. Bukola Olopade as the Chairman and Director-General of the National Sports Commission is top notch.

He said, "Honestly, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is making a very clear statement with the deserved interest he has for sports development in Nigeria. From the massive increase in the country’s annual budget for Sports to increased welfare packages for Nigerian athletes, especially those drafted for national assignments, the difference is clear.

"President Tinubu does not just make promises, he fulfills them unlike what obtains in the past when it takes long period before athletes could get deserved allowances after representing Nigeria at international events.

"The Nigerian President has also been marching words with action by ensuring that victorious Athletes and Officials receive Presidential rewards and awards all most immediately. This is highly commendable."

He said at 74, President Tinubu is fulfilling his mandate of using sports as veritable instrument for Renewed Hope and desired transformation.

"With plans underway to revolutionise the entire Sports infrastructure in the country by the current administration, hope abound in restoring decades of decay in Sports Facilities in parts of Nigeria. Steps taken so far, in line with the vision and implementation by the National Sports Commission are promising.

"Deliberate efforts moving forward can only make things better," he said.

He then prayed God Almighty to grant the President more years in good health to enable him lead Nigeria to greater heights.
