The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated Naija Ratels on their historic qualification for the Women's President Federation Cup final.
In a landmark achievement, Naija Ratels have become the first FCT-based team since 2000 to reach the final of the competition, following their triumph over Remo Stars on Sunday in Enugu.
In a statement signed by Samuel Ahmadu, Secretary of FCT SWAN on Monday, Chairman Kelechi Onwudiwe expressed immense pride and excitement over Naija Ratels' journey to this year's final, joining two-time finalists and defunct FCT Queens in the FCT's history books.
Chairman Onwudiwe said, "This is a historic moment for Naija Ratels and the entire FCT. Their determination and resilience have brought them to this point, and we are incredibly proud of their achievement. We urge all supporters to rally behind the team as they make history in the final."
The veteran broadcaster added, "Naija Ratels' journey to the final is a testament to their hard work and dedication. As the first FCT side to reach this stage in 24 years, they have already made us proud, and we believe they have what it takes to go all the way. Let’s show them our full support."
The NWFL Premiership side secured their place in the final after a thrilling 7-6 penalty shootout victory against Remo Stars Ladies, following a 2-2 draw in regulation time at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu.
Naija Ratels will now face Rivers Angels, who triumphed over Delta Queens with a 2-1 victory on Sunday in Awka.
The final of the Women's 2024 President Federation Cup is scheduled to take place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on June 29 at 1 p.m.
FCT SWAN calls on all sports enthusiasts in the FCT to support Naija Ratels as they aim to make another history by winning the Women's 2024 President Federation Cup.
