SWAN National EXCO, LOC Pay Courtesy Visit to Media Trust Ahead of SWAN @ 60 Celebration

As part of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), members of the National Executive Council and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) paid a courtesy visit to Media Trust Headquarters, publishers of Daily Trust newspaper, on Monday in Abuja.

The delegation, led by the Secretary-General of SWAN, Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo, included Ben Ogbemudia, Chairman of the SWAN @ 60 LOC; Friday Joshua, Assistant Secretary of FCT SWAN; and Sunny Canto, representative of Titans Sports.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo commended Media Trust for its consistent contribution to sports development and journalism excellence in Nigeria. He described the partnership between SWAN and Media Trust as “a match made in heaven”, emphasizing the organization’s desire to strengthen collaboration ahead of the anniversary celebrations.

“We are here to solicit your support for the SWAN @ 60 celebration. Media Trust has always stood tall in promoting sports and amplifying the voices of athletes and journalists alike. We believe this collaboration will further showcase the value of sports journalism in national development,” Okonkwo stated.

In her remarks, Stella Iyaji, General Editor of Media Trust, welcomed the SWAN delegation and reaffirmed the organization’s readiness to support the upcoming event. She expressed delight over SWAN’s milestone and highlighted Media Trust’s commitment to comprehensive coverage across its platforms.

“We have David, we have Jimmy — so you can rest assured they will cover the event,” she said. “As you know, we are a multimedia platform with radio, TV, and online presence. So, we’ll ensure full coverage across all channels. Sports is something we take seriously here as well.”

Iyaji congratulated SWAN on its 60th anniversary and pledged continued partnership in promoting sports reportage and professionalism in Nigeria.

The visit was part of ongoing engagement efforts by the SWAN @ 60 LOC to mobilize institutional and media support for the historic celebration, which is expected to bring together sports journalists, administrators, and stakeholders nationwide.
