SWAN Salutes Tinubu On 73rd Birthday
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR on his 73rd birthday.
In a statement on Saturday, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, through the Association's Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, eulogised President Tinubu for his years of great leadership exploits in Nigeria and beyond.
While highlighting the virtues of the 16th President of Africa's most populous country, the SWAN President described him as a fearless patriot and courageous leader whose transformative attributes speak volume.
He said, "Our dear President is one wo deserves all accolades, particularly due to his desire and commitment to youth and sports development right from when he was Governor of Lagos State.
"I recall how Lagos use to dominate Sports Development through discovery of many talents during national sporting events like the National Sports Festival (NSF). During his reign as Governor, Lagos State-based Athletes dominated performance at NSF and other sports competition. And that led to their dominance whenever Nigeria coaches/sports federations select Athletes to represent Nigeria for international events.
"Now as President he has already started revolutionising Sports in the country by returning Sports administration and indeed operations with the return of National Sports Commission (NSC), a move that has offered Renewed Hope of better times ahead.
"Also, he has marched his words with action by jerking up Sports budget for 2025 in an unprecedented manner. This is the way to go. And by the time the leadership of NSC ensure judicious use of the available funds, Nigerian Sports will assuredly experience breath of fresh air."
The number sports writer in Nigeria then prayed for greater wisdom and healthy life for President Tinubu as he pilots the affairs of the country in the months and years ahead.
He also assured the President that the Sporting Media will continuously evolve more creative means of making meaningful contributions to the development of sports in Nigeria.
