The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) nation body has extended its heartfelt appreciation to the French Embassy in Nigeria for the timely and generous assistance in granting visas to its 14 members for the Paris 2024 Olympics coverage, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

This gesture, SWAN notes, underscores the French Embassy's commitment to fostering international cooperation and promoting the Olympic spirit.

In an official statement through the Secretary-General Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin recounted the critical role the French Embassy played in enabling Nigerian journalists to cover this prestigious global event. 

This support is a testament to the French Embassy’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and promoting the spirit of the Olympic Games.

The association acknowledged that the granted visas have allowed their colleagues to prepare thoroughly for delivering insightful and engaging reports from Paris. These reports are expected to capture the achievements and stories of athletes from around the world, including Nigeria, thereby significantly contributing to the development of sports journalism in the country.

In addition to their gratitude, SWAN has made a respectful appeal to the French Embassy to extend similar support for the upcoming Paralympic Games. The association emphasised the importance of having Nigerian journalists cover the Paralympics to document and share the inspiring performances and stories of Team Nigeria’s Paralympians, who are poised for remarkable achievements.
