Samuel Agu Bags Imo SWAN Heartland Player Of The Month Award For April

Heartland FC central defender, Samuel Agu is the latest to be recognised as the Imo SWAN Heartland FC Player of the Month for April following his individual blistering performance last month, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The defender got over 90 percent of the votes cast by members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo Chapter to become the eighth winner of the prestigious award.

He defeated his teammates, namely Christian Nkwo, Emmanuel Charles, the winner of the award in March, Chukwudi Agor and Chinedu Ozor, who also put up commendable outings last month.

Agu, who provided stability and calming influence to Heartland's defence in all the games he played in April with three clean sheets out of the five games played in all competitions, was among the few turning points of a positive month, which produced two victories and two draws.

He scored two goals and was a threat in the final third in all the games played despite ensuring that his partnership with Chinedu Ozor does not ship in goals anyhow.

The former Akwa United defender, along with Emmanuel Charles, will be presented with their award plaques for March and April Player of the Month and a token prize money courtesy of an anonymous sponsor on Wednesday, May 7th, shortly before the home game versus Plateau United in Owerri.

Both will become the second and third players to benefit from the prize money that has now become a norm until the end of the season.

It should be recalled that Peters Afolayan (September 2024), Ebuka Nwokoecha (October 2024), Surajudeen Lawal (November 2024), Christian Molokwu (December 2024) and Anthony Omaka (January 2025) and Surajudeen Lawal (February 2025) again; and Emmanuel Charles were previous winners of the award.

Imo SWAN Heartland FC Player of the Month Award is solely organised by Cosmos Chukwuemeka led Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Imo Chapter with the support of an anonymous sponsor and it is to reward the most outstanding Heartland FC player every month until the end of the season when the Imo SWAN Heartland FC Player of the Season would be unveiled.

The Association is still open to more sponsorship from individual and corporate organisations of Imo State origin within and outside the state to ensure the award experiences a rebirth with the potential sponsor(s) getting the value for their investments.
