Scandal Rocks Cameroon Football: Eto’o Risks 5-Year Ban Over Alleged Fund Diversion

Cameroon football has been thrown into fresh turmoil as shocking revelations emerge that FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o Fils, allegedly diverted funds meant for the national team into his personal account, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The latest crisis reached a boiling point on Thursday after a document surfaced showing that Eto’o had requested the Russian Football Federation to pay part of a €455,056 appearance fee directly into his private account. The revelation, shared via @Mickjnr on X (formerly Twitter), has sparked outrage.

According to FIFA’s Article 29 on the misuse of funds, Eto’o could face a minimum five-year suspension from all football-related activities for allegedly diverting over 300 million CFA francs (approximately $525,000) meant for the Indomitable Lions into his personal account in Qatar.

The FIFA ethics code prescribes severe penalties for financial misconduct, especially when committed by high-ranking officials, including a minimum fine of CHF 100,000 and a mandatory five-year ban.

Since assuming the FECAFOOT presidency, Eto’o’s tenure has been marred by a series of controversies, and this latest development could mark the most damaging chapter yet.
