Security Lapses, Fan Violence Earn Nasarawa United Heavy Sanctions

Nasarawa United have been sanctioned for multiple breaches of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Framework and Rules following their home fixture against Kun Khalifat FC on April 5, 2026, at the Lafia City Stadium.

According to the league authorities, the club failed to provide adequate and effective security during the match, resulting in unauthorized individuals gaining access to restricted areas.

Supporters of the Lafia-based side were also found to have thrown dangerous objects at match officials as they made their way to secure zones, further compounding the security lapses.

In addition, club officials were cited for unsporting conduct deemed capable of bringing the game into disrepute. The club was also held responsible for failing to control the behavior of its supporters, which led to the harassment of match officials.

As a result of these infractions, Nasarawa United have been handed a series of financial penalties. The club was fined ₦1 million each for failing to provide adequate security and for the throwing of dangerous objects. A further ₦1 million fine was imposed for unsporting conduct by club officials.

Additional sanctions include separate ₦1 million fines for the misconduct of supporters, which resulted in the harassment of match officials and the detention of the officials for approximately 20 minutes after the match.

Beyond the financial penalties, the club will also play its final two home matches of the season behind closed doors.

Nasarawa United have been given 48 hours from the date of notification to lodge an appeal against the sanctions.
