Senate Sports Committee Chairman Abdul Ningi Congratulates Super Eagles’ Bronze Medal Triumph
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports Development, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, has congratulated the Super Eagles on their bronze medal victory at the 2025 Africa Nations Cup following their third-place playoff win over Egypt on Saturday evening.
Nigeria secured the bronze medal after defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties, following a goalless draw at the end of regulation time. The Super Eagles held their nerve from the spot to finish as the tournament’s third-best team.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was the standout performer in the encounter and was named Man of the Match after saving two Egyptian penalties to give Nigeria a decisive advantage in the shootout.
In his reaction to the victory, Senator Abdul Ningi OON, CON, praised the players for their mental strength and resilience, noting their ability to bounce back from a semi-final defeat to hosts Morocco, where Nigeria also lost on penalties.
Speaking on behalf of the Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Ningi said the team’s performance reflected the enduring spirit of Nigerian football.
“On behalf of the Senate Committee on Sports, I warmly congratulate the Nigerian Super Eagles and the entire nation on our well-deserved victory over the Egyptian national team, the Pharaohs, to secure the bronze medal at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco,” he said.
“This triumph is a testament to the resilience, discipline, and fighting spirit that define the Nigerian character. Our players have once again made the nation proud and demonstrated that Nigeria remains a formidable force in African football.”
The lawmaker also commended the coaching crew and team officials for their professionalism and dedication, while acknowledging the support of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora throughout the tournament.
“I commend the players, coaches, and officials for their dedication and professionalism, and I thank Nigerians everywhere for their unwavering support. May this achievement inspire greater unity and renewed investment in sports development across our great nation,” he added.
