Senegal Coach Threatens CAF Over AFCON Decision

Sampson Adedeji

Head coach of the Teranga Lions of Senegal, Pape Thiaw, has issued a strong warning to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), threatening that the country could withdraw from the continental football body following the controversial Africa Cup of Nations ruling, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The development comes in the wake of CAF’s Appeal Committee decision to strip Senegal of the AFCON title and award it to Morocco, a move that has sparked outrage within Senegalese football circles.

Reacting to the verdict, Thiaw firmly rejected the decision and insisted that his team rightfully earned the title on the pitch.

“We will not return the cup and we will not hand it over to Morocco, and even the winning bonuses are our legitimate right,” Thiaw said.

“We worked hard for them and we won them deservedly. If they force us to do that, it will cost us our withdrawal from this continent.”

The comments further escalate tensions between Senegal and CAF, with the situation threatening to deepen the ongoing crisis surrounding the tournament’s outcome.

Football stakeholders across Africa are now closely monitoring the situation, as any potential withdrawal by Senegal could have significant implications for competitions organized by CAF.
