The Young Lions of Teranga dominated the podium in the just concluded U-17 AFCON Tournament in Algeria, bagging the best goalie and top scorer medals, after lifting the title in style against Morocco BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Twelve teams traveled from across Africa to Algeria to battle in three different stadia, but one team told a dominant tale - Les Lions de la Téranga (Senegal's U-17) after both Amara Diouf and Serigne Diouf scooped the top scorer and best goalkeeper awards respectively.
Amara Diouf, 14 years old, finished the tournament with five goals, while Serigne Diouf kept four clean sheets while conceding two goals in two games (Semis and finals) for Senegal.
Head Coach of the Senegalese team - Serigne Dia was head over heels for his players and their tenacity in the face of reproach, after going down first in the game.
“We played against a very strong team. Conceding first made the match very difficult but I think we should have been more cautious. We managed to regroup and dominated possession of the ball, especially in the second half."
Dia further noted that his player's never die mindset helped them accomplish positive results.
"It gave us a result and I am happy that the players gave a good fight and never gave up."
Other winners on the podium were Souleymane Alio of Burkina Faso finishing as the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while the Moroccan team was honored as the Competition's Fair Play squad alongside their coach - Said Chiba, winning the best coach award.
