Players of Ismaily SC temporarily walked off the pitch in protest during their clash against Wadi Degla SC, following a controversial refereeing decision, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The incident occurred after Wadi Degla were awarded their second goal of the encounter, a decision that sparked strong disagreement from the Ismaily players, who felt aggrieved by the referee’s call. In response, the players left the field in a dramatic show of dissatisfaction.

The development appears reminiscent of the action taken by the Senegal national football team popularly known as the Teranga Lions during the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Morocco national football team, where they briefly walked off to protest officiating decisions.

Observers have described the trend as the “Senegal Effect,” suggesting that teams across the continent may be increasingly willing to stage on-field protests in response to contentious refereeing calls.

However, in the Ismaily case, calm was eventually restored as the players returned to the pitch to resume and complete the match.
