Senegal FA Chief Augustin Senghor Slams Moroccan Dominance In African Football

President of the Senegalese Football Federation and former CAF vice-president, Augustin Senghor, has launched a scathing attack on what he describes as Morocco’s growing dominance over African football, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

Senghor’s remarks come in the wake of his exclusion from the FIFA Council, where he garnered only 13 of 53 votes in the March 12, 2025 elections. 

“This isn’t about a single strongman,” Senghor stated. “It’s about a nation that has strategically positioned itself within CAF.”

He pointed directly to Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, as the architect of what he termed a "carefully crafted system of dominance" reshaping the continent’s football landscape.

He further accused CAF of favouring a North African alliance—including Morocco, Egypt, and Mauritania—at the expense of broader continental representation.

“I won’t compromise my principles just to secure a seat at FIFA or to lead CAF,” Senghor declared, reiterating his opposition to what he called a “logic of subordination.”

Senghor also criticized Morocco’s growing role as a host for international matches of countries whose home stadiums are banned, questioning the ethics behind this practice.

 “It raises a serious ethical dilemma,” he said. “Is this really the vision of equality our founding fathers—Mandela among them—had in mind?”

He ended with a passionate appeal to African leaders to reclaim agency over the continent’s football institutions.

 “If Africa is to chart its own course, that independence must be reflected in our sporting governance as well.”
