Senegal Faces AFCON Blackout If CAS Upholds CAF Ruling

Senegal could be excluded from the next Africa Cup of Nations if the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upholds the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to award the 2025 AFCON title to Morocco and rule that Senegal forfeited the final, BSNSports.com.ng reports

The controversy stems from the dramatic conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, where Senegal were adjudged to have abandoned the match, leading CAF’s Appeal Committee to record the fixture as a 3–0 victory in favour of Morocco.

However, the situation could take a more severe turn for the Teranga Lions if CAS affirms CAF’s ruling. 

Under Article 59 of the AFCON regulations, any team found guilty of forfeiting a match may face additional disciplinary measures, including suspension from subsequent editions of the competition.

Such a sanction would deal a major blow to Senegal’s football ambitions, potentially ruling them out of the next AFCON tournament and disrupting their competitive cycle on the continental stage.

While Senegal are expected to continue their legal challenge at CAS, the final verdict will be decisive in determining whether the West African nation faces further punishment beyond the loss of the title.

For now, uncertainty surrounds Senegal’s immediate future in African football as stakeholders await the outcome of the arbitration process.
