Senegal Has Not Filed AFCON Appeal, Court of Arbitration for Sport Confirms

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has stated that it has not received any formal appeal from the Senegalese Football Federation regarding the controversial outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Reports had suggested that Senegal intended to challenge the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to strip them of the title and award it to hosts Morocco. However, CAS clarified in an official statement that no such filing has been made to date.

Senegal had originally secured a 1–0 victory over Morocco in the final held on January 19, 2026. The match was marked by a dramatic incident in which Senegalese players and officials briefly walked off the pitch in protest after a penalty was awarded to Morocco. Following discussions, the team returned to resume play.

Morocco ultimately failed to convert the penalty, and Senegal went on to score the decisive goal during extra time to claim what appeared to be the championship.

In a surprising development two months later, CAF overturned the result, declaring Morocco as the winners and reassigning Senegal to second place. The decision sparked widespread debate and prompted reports that Senegal would escalate the matter to CAS.

Despite those reports, CAS confirmed that it is yet to receive any official appeal from Senegal. The Senegalese Football Federation has until April 7 to formally lodge a case challenging the ruling.
