Senegal Trophy Parade: France Under Pressure As Morocco-Senegal Dispute Escalates

France is facing potential legal and disciplinary consequences following the decision to allow Senegal parade the disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations trophy at the Stade de France, as tensions between Morocco and Senegal continue to intensify, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Moroccan Football Federation has confirmed its intention to pursue legal action against French authorities after Senegal displayed the trophy on French soil, despite ongoing disputes surrounding its ownership. 

Morocco argues that the parade contravenes existing rulings and undermines due process.

Under French civil law, organizers of events at the Stade de France could face lawsuits, including allegations related to “title theft” and claims for damages. 

There is also the possibility that a French court could order the confiscation of the trophy pending the resolution of the dispute.

Beyond domestic legal implications, the issue could trigger sanctions at the international level. 

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) may impose fines or disciplinary measures on the Senegalese Football Federation for failing to comply with established decisions, particularly under provisions of its disciplinary code.

Morocco has already escalated the matter by strengthening its complaint to FIFA’s Ethics Committee, while the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is expected to deliver the final ruling on the ownership of the contested title.

Prior to the parade, Moroccan authorities had issued a formal warning to France, urging officials to reject Senegal’s proposal to display the trophy. The request, however, was not acted upon.

In response to the developments, Morocco appointed a judicial commissioner to document events surrounding Senegal’s recent international fixture against Peru. 

The commissioner reportedly gathered evidence including details of event organizers, branding, slogans, and the public exhibition of the disputed trophy.

The findings will form part of a comprehensive report to be submitted to FIFA’s Ethics Committee, with Morocco accusing Senegal of breaching disciplinary regulations by celebrating a title that had been revoked by the Confederation of African Football.

With both nations standing firm, the dispute continues to escalate, raising concerns over potential diplomatic and sporting repercussions as stakeholders await a decisive ruling from CAS.
