Senegal Wrap Up WAFCON Preparations with Friendly Defeat To Egypt

By Our Reporter

Senegal concluded their two-match international friendly series against Egypt with a 1-0 defeat in Cairo on Saturday, bringing an end to another phase of their preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Lionesses entered the second fixture on the back of a 1-0 victory over the hosts on Wednesday, when Ndeye Nguenar Ndiaye converted a penalty to hand Mame Moussa Cissé's side their first win after consecutive defeats to Nigeria in June.

However, Senegal were unable to replicate that performance in the return encounter, falling to a narrow defeat as Egypt levelled the series.

Despite the setback, the two friendlies provided head coach Mame Moussa Cissé with another opportunity to evaluate his squad ahead of the continent's premier women's football tournament.

The 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16 after being rescheduled from its original March dates.

Senegal secured qualification for the finals for a third successive edition and will be making their fifth appearance at the tournament. The Lionesses have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya.

After reaching the quarter-finals at the last edition, Senegal will be aiming to build on that achievement as they prepare for another campaign on the continental stage.
