Serie A: Ekong Shines As Salernitana Ends Disastrous Run Of Form

Nigeria's Super Eagles defender William Troost Ekong was thrown straight into the starting lineup as Salernitana ended the disastrous run of form in the Italian Serie A, BSNSports.com.ng report.

The 28-year-old defender moved to the Italian club on Wednesday on loan from the English Championship side Watford FC.

Salernitana had secured just 2 points in the last 7 matches and was playing away to Lecce who was unbeaten in the last 6 games.

It took just five minutes to break the deadlock and it was Salernitana who went in front after the host defender made a mistake and the ball dropped on the feet of Boualaye Dia, who thumped it first time from outside the box into the near bottom corner.

Bouba Dia made it 2-0 for Salernitana before Giuseppe Pezella reduced the deficit to 2-1.

Lecce pressed for the equaliser late in the second half but Salernitana's defence led by Ekong did enough to secure the maximum points.
