Shocker: Zimbabwe Set To Take Clash Against Bafana Bafana Away From South Africa

Zimbabwe’s Warriors are reportedly set to relocate their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana from South Africa to neighbouring Botswana, BSNSports.com.ng reporty

The Group C encounter, scheduled for 10 October 2025, was initially billed to take place in South Africa, where Zimbabwe had adopted venues due to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA’s ban on hosting international matches in Harare over stadium safety concerns.

However, fresh reports suggest the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is finalising arrangements to host the crucial Day 9 qualifier in Botswana instead.

Botswana currently boasts two FIFA-approved facilities, including the 26,000-capacity Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, which has successfully hosted Namibia’s previous two World Cup qualifying fixtures. 

The switch would offer Zimbabwe a neutral yet geographically convenient option while providing their supporters in the region easier access.

ZIFA has yet to issue an official statement, but sources inside the association revealed that the move is being considered to provide a “better logistical and fan-friendly environment” for the fixture.

The match is a pivotal clash for both nations as they battle for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Bafana Bafana will be eager to consolidate their position in the group, while Zimbabwe will look to revive their qualification hopes after an inconsistent run of results.

An official announcement on the venue is expected in the coming days.
