Former Super Eagles forward Shola Ameobi has been appointed as Newcastle United's new Head of Corporate Affairs, marking another significant milestone in his post-playing career with the Premier League club, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Ameobi steps into the newly created executive role after serving as Newcastle's Loans Coordinator for the past seven years, during which he oversaw the development and progression of the club's loan players.
His promotion reflects his steady rise within the club's off-field structure, with his academic background and professional development helping prepare him for the senior executive position.
The former striker is also a member of the inaugural cohort of the Premier League's Player-to-Executive Pathways Scheme, an initiative designed to help former players transition into leadership and executive roles within football.
Speaking about his ambitions, Ameobi said he hopes to see more Black players move into executive positions across the game, emphasizing the importance of creating opportunities for former professionals to remain influential in football beyond their playing careers.
Ameobi enjoyed a distinguished playing career at Newcastle United before representing several other clubs and earning caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
His latest appointment further strengthens the growing presence of former players in senior football administration.
