Shooting Stars optimistically began their Optima Energy Gold Cup quest after drawing with newly-promoted Ikorodu City in the Group B second MatchDay One fixture at the FC Ebedei Stadium in Sagamu 

The two Southwest Derby Nigeria Premier Football League sides produced some fireworks and displayed what their fans should expect in the season. 

Both teams started the match on a positive note, continuously creating chances but lacked the cutting-edge in front of the goal. 

The Oga Boys' new signing, Rivio Ayemwenre, should have put his team in front with the opening goal, but the midfielder nodded his effort of target in the seventh minute 

A quarter of an hour later, an astonishing save from Oluyole Warriors Abiodun Akande denied Chineme Chinonso a chance to gift Ikorodu City the lead. 

Both clubs then went into the halftime break with a barren draw, leaving all to play for in the second half. 

Shooting Stars upped their game in the second half, dominating possession with decent attacking display, forcing Ikorodu City to sit on the backline and were solid with their defending. 

However, as the clock thicked away, there were still no signs that the game would produce a match winner, as both teams shared points.
