By Gbenga Gboyega
The champions of the 2023 ValueJet Cup - Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan added to their crown by dominating the Best XI of the pre-season tournament staged at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Oluyole Warriors fought impressively as they clinched the pre-season silverware after defeating Beyond Limits with 2 goals to nil through Malomo Taofeek and Gali Falke.
One of the goalscorers, Malomo Taofeek who featured through the championship for 3SC also made it into the Best XI released by the organizers who also opened the collation to the fans a day prior via digital platforms.
On Twitter, ValueJet Cup's official page read; "Team of The Tournament - Share with us, the players that deserve to be on the team.
"Obasi Onyebuchi of @Beyond_LimitsFA (finalists) was voted the Player of the Tournament.
"Which other 10 players should join him in the Team of the Tournament?" they surveyed.
Following the collations and algorithms, Shooting Stars Sports Club dished out five representatives on the squad list with Head Coach Gbenga Ogunbote earning the coaching role.
Goalkeeper Darlington Ovunda of 3SC between the sticks, plus his defensive teammates Aniyikaye Adeleye in the central defense, flanked by Gbolagade Adelowo to the left and Beyond Limits' Muhammed Abdullah on the right completed a 3-man backline.
Defensive-minded Alex Aghahowa was the only 3SC player in a midfield dominated by Beyond Limits as Samaad Popoola, Oluwaseyi Ogunniyi, and Farouk Ogundare rallied around.
The 3-man frontline produced strikers from 3 teams, with 3SC's Malomo Taofeek, and Beyond Limits Obasi Onyebuchi, on the right and left-wing respectively flanking Kwara United's Samuel Ayorinde.
It is only fitting that the coach given the baton to lead this array of bests is 3SC's 58-year-old gaffer - Gbenga Ogunbote, who led his team to victory at the ValueJet pre-season championship.
