Singida Black SC Clears Amas Obasogie of Match-Fixing Allegations

Singida Black Stars Sports Club of Tanzania has cleared Nigerian goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of any involvement in match-fixing allegations following an internal investigation conducted by the club, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The club made this known in a statement signed by its Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Kassano, on March 7, 2026, after concerns were raised by fans, management and stakeholders over a series of costly mistakes in recent matches. The errors occurred during games against Flambeau du Center in the CAF Confederation Cup, as well as Pamba Jiji and Namungo FC in the NBC Premier League.

According to the statement, the club’s Disciplinary Committee initiated a preliminary investigation after the incidents sparked suspicion among supporters and observers.

However, following a review of the situation, including the player’s defence and clarification from the club’s General Manager, the club concluded that there was no evidence of match manipulation or deliberate poor play.

“The incidents that raised concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game,” the statement said.

As a result of the findings, Singida Black SC has reversed its earlier decision to suspend Obasogie for three months, allowing the goalkeeper to resume his duties with the team.

The club also disclosed that the player had apologised for the circumstances that led to the misunderstanding and pledged to improve his performance in order to regain the confidence of fans and stakeholders.

The development follows earlier intervention by former Edo State Deputy Governor and DG-NIS H.E Comrade Philip Shaibu, who had written to the Tanzanian club cautioning against making allegations against the Nigerian goalkeeper without proper investigation.

Shaibu, who served as Chairman of Bendel Insurance FC of Benin, warned that the club could face legal action if the accusations were not thoroughly examined. He maintained that Obasogie had demonstrated professionalism and reliability during his time with the Nigeria Premier Football League side.

During his stint with Bendel Insurance, Obasogie played a key role in the club’s historic unbeaten league run, a performance that eventually earned him a transfer to Singida Black SC in Tanzania.

With the investigation now concluded and the suspension lifted, the goalkeeper is expected to return to action as Singida Black SC continues its domestic and continental campaigns.
