Six Players Yet to Join Super Falcons Camp as WAFCON Preparations Gather Momentum

Nigeria's preparations for the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have gathered momentum, with only six players yet to report to the Super Falcons' training camp in Casablanca, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Nineteen of the 25 invited players are now in camp following the arrival of additional squad members on Sunday, as head coach Justine Madugu intensified preparations ahead of Nigeria's opening Group B fixture against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28.

Fifteen players took part in Sunday's evening training session at the La Noria Club, while BK Häcken duo Halimatu Ayinde and Joy Omewa arrived in Casablanca during the session. Pachuca Tuzas defender Osinachi Ohale and forward Chinwendu Ihezuo were also en route to Morocco on Sunday and were expected to link up with the squad shortly.

The latest arrivals boosted the team's numbers as the nine-time African champions stepped up preparations for another title challenge.

Among the early arrivals in camp are captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Shukurat Oladipo, Oluwatosin Demehin and Christy Ucheibe, midfielders Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini, and experienced forwards Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega and Omorinsola Babajide.

The 19 players currently in camp are:

Goalkeepers: Chiamaka Nnadozie (Brighton & Hove Albion, England), Comfort Erhabor (Portsmouth Women, England) and Fatima Oloko (Abia Angels).

Defenders: Osinachi Ohale (Pachuca Tuzas, Mexico), Shukurat Oladipo (AS Roma, Italy), Rofiat Imuran (London City Lionesses, England), Glory Ogbonna (FC Kiryat Gat, Israel), Oluwatosin Demehin (Galatasaray, Turkey), Sikiratu Isah (Bnot Netanya, Israel) and Christy Ucheibe (SL Benfica, Portugal).

Midfielders: Rasheedat Ajibade (Paris Saint-Germain, France), Halimatu Ayinde (BK Häcken, Sweden), Toni Payne (Everton Women, England), Jennifer Echegini (Paris Saint-Germain, France), Asisat Oshoala (Al Hilal, Saudi Arabia), Joy Omewa (BK Häcken, Sweden), Francisca Ordega (Al-Ittihad Ladies, Saudi Arabia), Omorinsola Babajide (AS Roma, Italy) and Chinwendu Ihezuo (Pachuca Tuzas, Mexico).

The remaining six players expected in camp are defender Michelle Alozie (Houston Dash, USA), midfielder Deborah Abiodun (Washington Spirit, USA), and forwards Gift Monday (Washington Spirit, USA), Esther Okoronkwo (AFC Toronto, Canada), Folashade Ijamilusi (Liaoning Shenyang Shenbei Hefeng, China) and Uchenna Kanu (Cruz Azul Femenil, Mexico).

The Super Falcons will continue training in Casablanca as they fine-tune preparations for the continental tournament, where they will be aiming to extend their record as Africa's most successful women's national team.
