South Africa Is Set To Replace Morocco As WAFCON Host

South Africa is on the verge of replacing the Morocco as the host country for the 2023 Women's African Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The competition was postponed to 2024 by the African football body after no country indicated interest in hosting the competition.

Despite hosting the last edition, CAF awarded Morocco the hosting right.

But since North African secured the right to stage 2025 African Cup of Nations their interest in hosting WAFCON has suddenly went cold.

South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan o Tuesday confirmed that they have already engaged the government about their plans to host the competition.

"Well, we have submitted to CAF our intention for the next WAFCON, of course that WAFCON was awarded to Morocco".

CAF must now respond to us, if they say yes - it will give us the opportunity to defend our title at home, and it is a huge opportunity for Banyana,'' said Jordaan.

South Africa last hosted the WAFCON in 2010; Banyana Banyana finished third in that tournament as Nigeria's Super Falcons beat Equatorial Guinea in the final.

The next WAFCON is scheduled for 6-25 July next year.
