South West Basketball Showdown Heats: Oyo State Sets Pace
The South West Basketball Showdown has kicked off in Ibadan, and the Oyo State Basketball team has been dominating the court in the first two days of the competition, reports BSNSports.com.ng.
Organized by the Olumide Oyedeji Youth Foundation, the week-long championship aims to promote unity, discipline, and talent development among the youth of South West states.
The six participating teams - Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, and Osun - are battling for the top spot. Oyo State has emerged as the team to beat, securing impressive victories in both Day 1 and Day 2.
The team's impressive offence and stifling defence have left opponents struggling to keep pace. With a +66 point differential, Oyo State has sent a clear message to its rivals.
On Day 1, Oyo defeated Ondo 82-51, while Lagos also started strong, defeating Osun 78-64. On Day 2, Oyo continued its winning streak, thrashing Ogun 75-40. Other Day 2 results saw Ekiti dominate Osun 75-37, while Lagos maintained its momentum with a 68-46 win over Ondo.
With its convincing wins, the Oyo State Basketball team has established itself as a formidable force in the competition.
The week-long championship will not only serve as an opportunity for coaches to assess and fine-tune their teams, but also as a platform for good performance ahead of their participation at the 2025 National Sports Festival basketball qualifiers.
The championship continues at the Liberty Stadium Indoor Basketball Hall until October 18.
