The manager of the English Premier League club Southampton, Russell Martins, has shown his willingness to keep Nigeria's Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu beyond the winter transfer window, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Onuachu was a subject of transfer this summer, but the Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor, who wanted him most, failed to meet the financial obligations set by the Saints.
Instead, the Nigerian International decided to stay at the St Mary's Stadium to prove his mettle.
Despite the defeat to Liverpool, Onuachu was praised for his contribution to the game.
"He was respectful and then so in January I’m sure there will be a few people that are interested in him again,” Martin was quoted by the Echo.
“I’m sure there will also be a few people kicking themselves that they clearly didn’t quite want him enough in the summer.
“For me, if Paul is happy, we’re really happy and we want him here as he can help us achieve what we want to achieve this season.”
Onuachu is expected to be in action on Wednesday when Southampton host Chelsea in the league.
