By Gbenga Gboyega
Nigeria Premier League club, Sporting Lagos, has announced the departure of Kalu Chukwuemeka and Chisom Orji following an end to their loan spells, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Both players joined the Lagos-based club in the 2022/23 season from Collins Edwin Sports Club, with Chisom featuring from the left, right full-wing, and through the middle of the park, while Chukwuemeka ran the left side of the midfield.
Sporting Lagos gained promotion to the Nigeria Premier League from the Nigeria National League despite being a little over a year old, with Chisom Orji and Chukwuemeka playing their part.
In 10 appearances, Chisom Orji delivered two goals and two assists since joining in March 2023, while Kalu Chukwuemeka bagged five goals in 11 games played within that period.
Both goals scored by Orji were nominated for the Goal of the Season award, however, his strike against Smart City got the accolades, with his assist for teammate Odafi Emmanuel in Sporting's first NNL promotional playoff game against F.C. One Rocket, also a memorable event.
Orji leaves Sporting Lagos with a high ovation after getting presented with the Fan’s Player of the Season at the Naija Super 8 celebration party, which the team won against Southwest rivals Remo Stars at the Onikan stadium.
For Kalu Chukwuemeka, his first goal for Sporting which helped secure a draw against Gateway United on MatchDay three (3) of the NNL season, ignited a chain of events that won the heart of fans during his solitary season.
Kalu also scored in the final game of the NNL playoffs series in Asaba, scoring a sublime finish past the Heartland FC goalkeeper from a set-piece to close the curtain on his memorable loan stint.
Sporting Lagos wishes both Kalu and Chisom the best as they both proceed to the next chapter of their career.
