Sporting Lagos Beat Remo Star In Naija Super 8 Final

Newly promoted Nigeria Premier League side - Sporting Lagos FC are Champions of the inaugural Naija Super 8 pre-season championship after defeating Remo Stars in penalty shootout, following a 1 all draw in regular time, bsnsports.com.ng reports.

Sporting Lagos FC and Ogun State-based Remo Stars provided the Southwestern fan base with an engaging Derby in the final, after the pair also met during the group stages with the Lagos-based club winning both encounters, albeit taking the final via the lottery of penalties. 

Sporting Lagos topped their NNL Group (B2) during the regular season, and finished among the top 4 clubs in the promotional playoffs to earn well deserving promotion to the top tier League system for the 2023-24 season. 

The club owned by Shola Akinlade, CEO of Paystack was founded barely a year ago, in 2022, and has experienced tremendous achievements within that period, while capping their efforts with resounding success in the Naija Super 8 championship.

With the win, Sporting Lagos will smile to bank to cash out Twenty five million naira (N25m).

Sporting Lagos drew Enyimba in a goalless draw, defeated Remo with 2 goals to 1, and beat Katsina United 1 - 0 in the group stages, before edging Akwa United 2-1 in the semi finals, and Remo Stars again in the final to clinch the pre-season tournament unbeaten. 

The organizers of the Naija Super 8 Championship Playoffs Flykite Productions, a content creation and event management platform, recorded massive turnout from fans who rocked the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos over a week of scintillating football in regular and VIP categories.
