The much anticipated top-of-the-table clash between Rangers International and Enyimba FC was abandoned following a late penalty call in favour of Flying Antelopes, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Nigeria Premier Football League Match-day 35 game played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium on Sunday tagged the Oriental Derby was to be league leaders decider with Rangers topping the league table with 60 points, trailed closely by Enyimba with 58 points.

The restless fans of the two sides trooped out en masse for the keenly contested encounter. All was going well in a goalless tie until the referee pointed to the penalty spot late in the game, awarding Rangers a controversial spot kick.

That decision did not go well with Enyimba players who protested the decision. While efforts were made to resume play, the game turned chaotic when some fans invaded the pitch, disrupting the already tension soaked match.

Meanwhile, the league management has yet to make comments on the development and the next steps

In other results from other venues in the Matchday 35 games, Abia Warriors were held to a goalless draw by visiting Bendel Insurance, Lobi Stars beat Remo Stars 3-2 while Bayelsa United and Sporting Lagos tie ended two goals apiece.

Elsewhere, ten-man Heartland FC kept their NPFL status hope alive with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Doma United in Owerri, Rivers United got the better of Shooting Stars with 1-0 triumph. The match between Sunshine Stars and Akwa United ended 2-0 in favour of the former.

On Saturday, Kano Pillars drew 1-1 with Tornadoes, Katsina United walloped already-relegated Gombe United 4-0 whereas Plateau United disunited Kwara United with 2-0 victory.
