Rivers Angels Football Club have been awarded ₦50 million by the Rivers State Government following their historic 10th victory in the President’s Federation Cup Women’s final, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The state-owned club defeated Nasarawa Amazons 4-2 on penalties at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Saturday, adding another chapter to their legacy as the most successful team in the competition’s history.

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, lauded the team's achievement through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika, who represented him at the final.

"This is absolutely unprecedented. There’s nothing like it," said Prof. Worika. "We are proud as Rivers men and women that our girls achieved such a feat. His Excellency, the Administrator, sent me here to encourage the girls at this final, and it’s a wonderful feeling. There are no words to describe it."

Before kickoff, the SSG conveyed the Administrator's best wishes to the team, reassuring them of the state's full support and commitment to rewarding their hard work.

Following the team’s victory, Vice Admiral Ibas announced a ₦50 million cash reward for the players and officials in recognition of their outstanding performance and for bringing pride to Rivers State.

In addition, the Administrator encouraged athletes from Team Rivers who won medals at the 2024 National Sports Festival to remain steadfast, assuring them that the government is finalizing plans to fulfill its earlier reward promises.

Rivers Angels Team Manager, Mrs. Matilda Otuenne, expressed gratitude for the achievement, attributing the victory to divine grace and the relentless dedication of the players and coaching staff.

Saturday’s triumph marks Rivers Angels’ 10th Federation Cup title, having previously lifted the trophy in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and earlier in 2024.
