Super Eagles Are Favourites for AFCON 2023, Says Gambia Coach

Head Coach of Gambia, Tom Saintfiet, has tipped the Super Eagles as favourites to lift the trophy at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

As they head into Cote d’Ivoire 2023, the Super Eagles aim to clinch their fourth AFCON title. Their last victory came in 2013 in South Africa under Jose Peseiro’s leadership.

Gambia, led by Saintfiet, is set to make their second appearance at the AFCON after their debut in 2021. Saintfiet is optimistic that the Super Eagles will dominate the continent once again.

Expressing his admiration for Nigerian football, Saintfiet remarked on Brila FM, “It will be interesting to see how Nigeria will perform because for me they are one of the favourites. It’s been 11 years since (Late) Stephen Keshi won it for them.”

Nigeria’s campaign kicks off against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, January 14 at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, followed by a showdown against the hosts at the same venue four days later. The Group C campaign concludes with a match against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, January 22.
