Super Eagles Assistant Coach Told To Step Aside From Club

By Admin

Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has been asked to step away from his role at Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars in order to focus fully on national team responsibilities ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to SCORENigeria, Ogunmodede, who led Remo Stars to their first-ever NPFL title last season, has not rejoined the club since their early elimination from the CAF Champions League by Mamelodi Sundowns. A club insider revealed that he was advised to devote his attention entirely to the national team’s preparation for AFCON.

“He was told not to worry about the team for now and to focus on the Super Eagles until after AFCON,” the source said. Some within the club reportedly believe juggling both jobs had become a major distraction for the coach, popularly known as “Ijaball.”

The development comes shortly after Remo Stars issued an official statement denying rumours that Ogunmodede had been sacked. The club insisted he remains their head coach and dismissed claims suggesting his removal.

Remo Stars are currently ninth in the NPFL table with 22 points from 16 matches, eight points behind league leaders Nasarawa United as the campaign nears its midpoint.

The temporary separation is expected to allow Ogunmodede to contribute fully to the Super Eagles’ technical preparations as the coaching crew works to assemble a competitive squad for the continental tournament.
