Super Eagles Assistant Pushes for Flying Eagles Head Coach Role

Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede is seeking appointment as head coach of Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, as uncertainty surrounds his future at club level, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

A source close to the situation confirmed that the Remo Stars tactician has indicated interest in leading the national youth side.

“Yes, the Remo Stars coach wants to be the new coach of the Flying Eagles,” the source said. “His future at his NPFL club is uncertain, so he is looking to secure a soft landing by taking charge of the Flying Eagles.”

Ogunmodede has served as one of the home-based assistants to Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle over the past year. During that period, he worked closely with senior national team players at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

At club level, Ogunmodede guided Remo Stars F.C. to their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title last season — a historic achievement for the Ikenne-based side.

The Nigeria Football Federation’s technical committee is scheduled to meet in Abuja on Wednesday to decide on new appointments for the Golden Eaglets (U-17), Flying Eagles (U-20), and Flamingos (U-17 women’s team).

The position of the Flying Eagles coach is currently vacant as the former Coach Aliyu Zubairu led the Flying Eagles left to manage Egyptian side Telecom Egypt SC, a side competing in the Egyptian Second Division League. He signed a two-year deal with the club in November 2025 to lead their promotion efforts.
