Super Eagles Begin Preparations For World Cup Playoffs – NFF President
Sampson Adedeji
President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has confirmed that preparations for next month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff have already commenced, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Super Eagles, who finished second in Group C of the qualifiers, are among the four teams set to battle in the playoffs scheduled to take place in Morocco.
Nigeria will face Gabon in one of the semifinals on November 13.
Speaking to the Super Eagles media team, Gusau disclosed that plans are already in motion to ensure the team is fully ready for the crucial encounter.
“We are aware of our opponents and the venue. As I speak, preparations have already started for the playoff,” he said.
The NFF boss also addressed the appointment of head coach Eric Chelle, noting that although there were initial doubts from some Nigerians, the coach has since justified his selection.
“Eric came in when many people had reservations about his appointment, questioning the process. But so far, he has proven himself and shown why he deserves to lead the Super Eagles,” Gusau stated.
He further highlighted Chelle’s impressive record in the World Cup qualifiers, where the former Malian international oversaw six matches, winning four and drawing two.
“If we had produced a similar performance in our first four games, we wouldn’t be in this position today,” Gusau added.
