Super Eagles Could Have Put More Than Two Goals Past Leone Stars- Peseiro
Alfred Kadiri
Jose Peseiro says his Super Eagles could have beaten Sierra Leone more than a two goal margin despite recording a slim 2-1 win in its opening Group A match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Leone Stars who had taken a surprised lead in the opening 10 minutes of the game were pegged back, following an immediate response from Alex Iwobi with a sublime finish in the 16th minute to draw even while Victor Osimhen put the icing on the cake in the 41st minute.
On the other hand Nigeria's other foes, Guinea-Bissau are leaders of Group A after they pummeled Sao Tome and Principe 5-1. They stay top with a goal difference of four.
Peseiro in his post-match chat, "We were better than Sierra Leone in this game, we deserve to win. We changed the setup in the second half, I think it was only the last 10 minutes our opponent had some good moments."
"We created a lot of scoring chances, we could have won with a bigger margin, but the team needs more time and we must work."
When asked about starting the game without a Defensive Midfielder, the Portuguese said: "I can play any player, I make the final decision. If I ask you, to give me your XI, it will be different from others.I believe in my players, it's my responsibility to select the players according to our plans."
