Super Eagles Defender Claims Fourth Super Cup with FC Porto

Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi celebrated another milestone in his career after helping FC Porto defeat Torreense 1-0 to win the Portuguese Super Cup at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The victory handed Porto a record-extending 25th Portuguese Super Cup title and the club's 88th major trophy, further cementing its status as the most successful club in Portuguese football history, one title ahead of long-time rivals Benfica.

Danish midfielder Victor Froholdt scored the decisive goal in the 38th minute, meeting a pinpoint cross from captain Pepê with a well-placed header to separate the two sides in the traditional curtain-raiser to the Portuguese football season.

Sanusi played the full 90 minutes, producing a disciplined defensive performance as Porto controlled much of the contest. The Nigerian left-back completed 84 percent of his passes, recorded a perfect success rate in tackles, and contributed solidly at the back as the Dragons opened the new campaign with silverware.

The latest triumph marks Sanusi's fourth Portuguese Super Cup title since joining Porto from Santa Clara in 2020. Overall, it is the 10th major trophy of his career with the Portuguese giants, adding to two Primeira Liga titles, four Super Cups, two Taça de Portugal crowns, and two Taça da Liga trophies.

The achievement also strengthens Sanusi's place among Nigeria's most decorated footballers at club level. With 10 major titles, the 29-year-old now ranks behind only Nwankwo Kanu, who won 14 senior club trophies, and John Obi Mikel, who collected 12 during his illustrious career.

Having established himself as one of Porto's experienced defenders, Sanusi will now turn his attention to the 2026/27 Primeira Liga campaign, with the club aiming to defend its league title and challenge for further domestic and European honours.
