Super Eagles Forward Faces Fan Backlash After Viral Post-Match Images with Injured Osimhen

By Our Reporter

Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru has come under intense scrutiny after images of him leaving Rams Park with compatriot Victor Osimhen went viral in the aftermath of Galatasaray’s hard-fought 3–2 win over Gençlerbirliği on Saturday.

According to All Nigeria Soccer, the photos, widely circulated across Turkish media, triggered debate among supporters who questioned the winger’s attitude, given the tense nature of the match and his current struggle for form.

Onyekuru, who rejoined the Turkish Süper Lig side in the summer, featured for just 14 minutes after replacing M’Baye Niang late in the contest. Despite his introduction, Gençlerbirliği were unable to find an equaliser as Galatasaray held on for victory.

According to Karadenizgazete, fan frustration deepened when cameras captured Onyekuru exiting the stadium in conversation with Osimhen, who was sidelined with injury but attended to support his teammates. While the interaction appeared cordial, some supporters felt the winger’s relaxed post-match demeanour was ill-timed in light of his recent performances.

The 28-year-old has yet to record a goal or assist in eight league appearances this season—a drought that has amplified criticism and raised concerns about his impact since returning to Istanbul. Sections of the fanbase have questioned both his commitment and long-term value to the squad.

Osimhen, meanwhile, has been a key figure for Galatasaray this season, scoring nine goals in 12 appearances across all competitions before sustaining his injury. His absence has been notable, with manager Okan Buruk eager to see the prolific striker return ahead of crucial fixtures, including the UEFA Champions League clash with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe.

As pressure mounts, Onyekuru will be looking to silence critics and rediscover the form that once made him a fan favourite in the Turkish topflight.
