Super Eagles Forward Receives Double Nomination for Celtic Goal of the Month Award

By Our Reporter

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has earned two nominations for Celtic FC’s Goal of the Month award for April following a series of impressive performances for the Scottish Premiership champions, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Celtic shortlisted six goals for the monthly award, with Iheanacho recognised for his strikes against Dundee FC and St Mirren FC.

The Nigerian forward’s first nomination came in Celtic’s Premiership clash against Dundee on April 5, when he expertly controlled a cross from Marcelo Saracchi before firing home a powerful late winner in the 82nd minute.

His second nominated goal arrived during Celtic’s emphatic 6-2 victory over St Mirren in the Scottish Cup semi-final on April 19. Iheanacho, introduced from the bench, capped a lively performance with a composed finish deep into extra time.

Other players nominated for the award include Saoirse Noonan, Anthony Ralston, Kieran Tierney and Daizen Maeda.

Since returning from injury, Iheanacho has rediscovered top form, scoring four goals in his last six appearances for Celtic. Three of those goals have proved decisive in league matches, underlining his growing importance to the team during the closing stages of the campaign.

One of his key contributions came in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Hibernian FC, where his close-range strike secured all three points and kept the club firmly in contention at the top of the table.

Reflecting on his recent performances, Iheanacho said he was pleased to contribute to the team’s success.

“I always feel great to come in and help the team get the win. It’s important to stay patient in the box and remain composed. It was a difficult finish, but I’m happy it went in,” he said after the Hibernian victory.

The 29-year-old has now scored seven goals in 18 appearances across all competitions since joining Celtic last summer.

Iheanacho is also expected to be available for Sunday’s Old Firm derby against Rangers FC after missing previous meetings this season due to fitness concerns.

His resurgence at club level has further strengthened calls for a return to the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June.
