Super Eagles goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo
Super Eagles Goalkeeper Attracting Interest from Former EPL Champions
By BSN Sports
Former Premier League champions Leicester City are reportedly considering a move for Super Eagles goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
According to reports from Football Insider, the Foxes are closely monitoring the Nigerian international and could explore either a permanent transfer or a season-long loan deal, depending on developments at his current club, Wrexham AFC.
Okonkwo enjoyed a productive campaign in the Championship last season, establishing himself as one of Wrexham’s key performers. The 24-year-old featured regularly and recorded a number of clean sheets as the club narrowly missed out on a place in the promotion play-offs.
His consistent displays have reportedly attracted interest from clubs higher up the English football ladder, with Leicester among the sides keeping tabs on his situation.
Despite playing an important role for Wrexham, Okonkwo’s status as the club’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper came under scrutiny at various points during the season, with the Nigerian spending brief periods out of the starting lineup. That uncertainty has fuelled speculation over his long-term future and alerted potential suitors.
Reports indicate that Wrexham are already assessing contingency plans should Okonkwo depart this summer. Nevertheless, the former Arsenal goalkeeper remains a highly valued member of the squad and has played a significant role in the club’s recent progress.
Okonkwo initially joined Wrexham on loan before making the move permanent following the expiration of his contract with Arsenal. Since arriving at the Welsh club, he has continued his development and gained valuable experience in senior English football.
The goalkeeper’s stock has also risen on the international stage. Having recently broken into the Nigeria national team setup, Okonkwo impressed during his early appearances for the Super Eagles, reportedly keeping clean sheets on his debut and reinforcing his reputation as one of the country’s most promising goalkeepers.
While Leicester City’s interest is understood to be at an exploratory stage and no formal offer has been submitted, the club’s history of recruiting standout Championship performers suggests a move could materialise if circumstances become favourable during the transfer window.
With the summer market gathering momentum, Okonkwo’s future is likely to remain a subject of interest as Leicester continue their search for reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.
