Super Eagles Group Opponent Draw 2–2 With Moroccan Side in Pre-AFCON Warm-Up

Super Eagles group C opponents, Uganda continued their build-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 2–2 draw against Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces in a friendly match played in Rabat over the weekend, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The encounter was one of two preparatory fixtures scheduled for the Cranes as they fine-tune their readiness for the AFCON finals. Uganda will face Gabon on Wednesday in another warm-up match as preparations intensify ahead of their Group C campaign.

Three times African champions,Super Eagles are drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia Uganda and Tanzania. Nigeria will face Uganda in their last group game on 31st December, 2025.

The team has been camped in Casablanca for over a week, using the training base to acclimatise and sharpen tactics ahead of their Group C opener against Tunisia, scheduled for December 23, 2025, in Rabat.

Veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango, currently with South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, has been recalled to add experience to the squad as Uganda targets a strong tournament showing.

Head coach Paul Put expressed optimism that his players’ commitment in training would translate into performances on the continental stage.

“They have the opportunity to show themselves to the world and possibly change their lives,” Put said. “It would be very nice to perform well because they deserve it.”

The Belgian coach, who guided Burkina Faso to the AFCON final in 2012, was encouraged by aspects of the display against the Moroccan top-flight side, particularly in the opening half.

“We played with courage and good mentality,” he said. “There were positives in the first half and we created chances. I was not happy with our ball management in the second half, but we will improve in the coming days.”
