Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, have been dealt a setback ahead of their international friendly against Jordan, with 21 players available in the squad for Tuesday’s encounter against Jordan BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Defenders Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi and Bruno Onyemaechi, along with goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, have all left camp for varying reasons, reducing the options available to head coach Eric Chelle.
Bassey, Ajayi and Okoye were forced out due to injury concerns. Bassey had earlier been replaced prior to the team’s previous fixture, while Ajayi and Okoye exited camp following the first match. Okoye, who plays for Udinese, is reported to have sustained a thigh injury.
Onyemaechi’s departure, however, is for personal reasons, having been granted permission to leave camp following the birth of his child.
The developments were confirmed by Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe, who disclosed the details in an official update.
Despite the absences, Chelle is expected to proceed with preparations using the remaining 21 players in camp. The team held a training session on Monday as they fine-tuned strategies ahead of the clash.
The three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions will take on Jordan in what serves as an important preparatory fixture, even as squad adjustments pose a late challenge for the technical crew.
