Sampson Adedeji
Newly invited Super Eagles forward Philip Otele has sent an early warning to Nigeria’s opponents ahead of the upcoming international mini tournament in Turkey after opening his goal account for Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga on Saturday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Otele, who recently earned a call-up from Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, continued his impressive rise with a standout performance against Borussia Dortmund.
The Nigerian forward gave Hamburg the lead in the encounter, showcasing his attacking quality and composure in front of goal.
However, despite his early strike, Hamburg failed to hold on to their advantage, eventually succumbing to a 3-2 defeat away from home.
Otele’s goal marks his first in the German topflight since joining the club and comes at a crucial time as he looks to cement his place in the national team setup.
With Nigeria set to face teams including Jordan national football team in the Turkey-based tournament, Otele’s form will be a major boost for the Super Eagles as they prepare for the international fixtures.
His performance is expected to increase competition within the squad and provide Chelle with more attacking options heading into the games.
